A Tragedy Was Not Averted

Today a shooter killed someone. No, they failed to kill their target, a multi-billionaire former President of the United States of America, instead blowing open the skull of a man sitting behind him. This shooter also critically injured another spectator – two people mere collateral in the attempted assassination of the front runner in the 2024 US presidential election.

Though questions undoubtedly need to be asked of the culpability of the Secret Service, particularly in light of the reported claims that they were warned a man was climbing onto the roof with a weapon prior to the shooting, the most egregious crime is the immediate and intentional dismissal of the Trump supporters who were shot as a result. The way the media, both legacy and alt, has focused on Trump and the shooter and completely ignored the two bystanders reminds me of the treatment of January 6 martyr Ashli Babbitt.

It is abundantly clear once again that if you support Trump in the United States your death doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter to those who hate Trump. It doesn’t matter to those who support Trump. It doesn’t matter to the media. It doesn’t matter to law enforcement.

A tragedy was not averted today. Today someone died for the crime of supporting Donald Trump to be President, and this is not the first time this has happened. I expect this will not be the last time someone dies for the sake of their Presidential choice.
