In this archived article from 2022 a lawsuit was filed against Letcher County deputy for having sex for-lenient treatment in the chambers of the now deceased judge Mullins.

Anonymous users of 4chan’s /pol/ image board claiming to be local to the incident have posted facebook and instagram posts from Sheriff Stine’s daughter which allege that she was in some legal trouble in the small community.

Though the allegations around sex-for-favours by the judge in this case are unconfirmed (and likely to remain so), much of the contextual evidence points to this being the likely source of the argument which spurred the shooting.
