Earlier today, the Department of Justice released a portion of a manifesto written by attempted Trump assassin Ryan Routh. In the manifesto, Mr. Routh acknowledged that he had attempted to kill President Trump. He declared his opposition to President Trump, stating that ““U.S. Presidents must at bare minimum embody the moral fabric that is America and be kind, caring and selfless and always stand for humanity. Trump fails to understand any…,” before the manifesto was cut off.
Furthermore, he offered a bounty of $150,000 to anybody who could successfully kill President Trump. This passage in the text has caused some consternation online. A number of figures have wondered whether to reveal this bounty offer publicly essentially meant that the DOJ was putting out a hit on Trump. I myself am not so sure, and am of the opinion that the public release of the manifesto can be justified in the public interest, especially since it acknowledged that Mr. Routh did indeed attempt to assassinate Donald Trump, and the release therefore help undercuts the spread of more BlueAnon conspiracy theories. In addition, I doubt Mr. Routh is in any position to pay such a bounty.
Still, it is worth comparing the rapid release of this manifesto with the struggle waged by the authorities to prevent the release of the manifesto of the Nashville school shooter. It was argued that releasing the Nashville manifesto could inspire further violence. A Tennessee judge went so far as to argue that the manifesto couldn’t be released because the victim’s families owned the copyright to it. When it was finally released, it was revealed that the shooter was a troon who harbored hatred against Whites and Christians. It seemed obvious that the authorities had hesitated to release the manifesto because it might bring to light the effect that leftist and transgender indoctrination in the American education system had on impressionable students.
At the risk of coming across like a boomer whining about hypocrisy, It seems that the possible consequences caused by the release of a manifesto only matter if the consequences are harmful for the Left.
